Dear colleagues and friends,
We are glad to announce the 7th EAAP International Symposium on Energy and Protein Metabolism and Nutrition (ISEP 2022) to be held in Granada (Spain) from September 12-15 2022. ISEP is the heir of previous symposiums, the International Symposium on Energy Metabolism (Copenhagen, Denmark, 1958 – Snekkersten, Denmark, 2000) and the International Symposium on Protein Metabolism and Nutrition (Nottingham, UK, 1974 – Aberdeen, UK, 1999), that combined in 2003 to become the 1st International Symposium on Energy and Protein Metabolism and Nutrition (ISEP) held in Rostock (Germany). Since then, Vichy (France), Parma (Italy), Sacramento (USA), Krakow (Poland) and Belo Horizonte (Brazil) have hosted this event triennially. We are looking forward seeing old friends and meeting new ones in a face to face event.
The ISEP is considered one of the most important forums to keep updated on the latest topics and trends on energy and protein metabolism and nutrition of farm animals and other nutrition related disciplines. We count on you to contribute to this event for which a high-quality scientific program with prominent keynote speakers has been designed (see preliminary program). We expect attendees from everywhere around the world.
Researchers from universities, research institutions and industry involved in nutrition and metabolism of farm animals, but also other related fields such as pet nutrition and animal models applied to human nutrition are more than welcome.
We look forward to meeting you in Granada!

Ignacio Fernández-Fígares (CSIC)
Chair of the Organizing Committee of ISEP 2022

It is impossible to make a brief summary of Granada, a land with a long and ancient history, with a rich artistic and cultural heritage left behind by the Muslims and Christians.
Just as a brushstroke, on the 2nd January of 1492, the last Muslim ruler in Iberia, Emir Muhammad XII, known as “Boabdil” to the Spanish, surrendered complete control of the Emirate of Granada to the Catholic Monarchs (Fernando II of Aragon and Isabel I of Castile), after the last episode of the Granada War. The 1492 capitulation of the Kingdom of Granada to the Catholic Monarchs is one of the most significant events in Granada’s history. Also, during those days, the expedition that would discover America was dealt here, in Granada.
Granada is not a huge city, nowadays the population is around 250,000 people. This fact makes easy to access everywhere by walk.
Granada province has beaches (70 km away), the highest summit of Iberian Peninsula (3,479 m), and many attractive places to visit.

It is also one of the attractions of Granada. It is very typical to go around to have tapas and taste local or Spanish genuine products. This is the custom of eating small and varied portions of delicious dishes as an aperitif in restaurants and bars. Tapas are usually served free with a soft alcoholic drink. Usually, it is the waiter who chooses the tapas and serves it to customers with their drinks. In some bars you can choose the tapas you want from a list. Going for tapas with friends is one of the most ingrained local traditions in Granada. Go for a stroll through the city, soak up its history, walk the historic and typical neighborhoods (Realejo, Albaicín or Sacromonte) and enjoy these delicious snacks in a typical bar or restaurant! These snacks include cheese, sausage or ham as well as typical local warm dishes such as Engañifa, Callos, Habas con jamón, Papas a lo pobre and Pescaíto frito.
The University of Granada was officially founded in 1531 by the king Carlos I of Spain. It has almost five hundred years of history and is therefore considered one of the historical universities in Spain, with more than fifty thousand students that give a festive and carefree atmosphere.
